My Life as a Shard Knight

My cover illustration for R.T. Driver's first book in his Isaac Comett series, titled My Life as a Shard Knight.

Isaac Comett expected to be using his last year of middle school to make fond memories with his soon-to-be separated friends; not fighting for his life against a threat from space!

In an attempt to commemorate their bond before going off to different high schools, Isaac's close friend June convinces him and the rest of their companions to spend their pathetic allowances on homemade crystal necklaces at an art fair. What was supposed to be a cheap trinket to remember each other by turns out to be an interstellar weapon called Memorite; an unimaginably powerful substance that everyone and their grandmother wants to get their hands on!

...Including the ruthless Cyborg, Captain Straum.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, you can get the e-book on Amazon right now!

The Glass Word

Kai Meyer is a renowned German fantasy author, and one of his most acclaimed works, the Merle trilogy -- possibly better known as Dark Reflections outside of Germany -- is being adapted into radio play format, scheduled to be released later this year. I was commissioned to do the cover illustrations, and this one is for the third book in the series: The Glass Word.

No Rest for the Weary

Even a seasoned warrior like Raine needs a break sometimes. And as far as breaks go, you would think there's little place more apt than a traditional Japanese hot spring. But when your companion is as irritatingly garrulous as Shou, well, there's no rest for the ears, at least!

As we're finishing up production on OVA: The Anime Role-Playing Game -- it's taking a bit longer than expected, but then we also added some juicy extra content that wasn't originally planned! -- Clay posted a text-only PDF of the book. It's missing a few sections, but the core content is there. If you preordered the book on our Kickstarter campaign, you should now have a download link to this early preview in your inbox. It's not long now!

Laddertop

This is my commissioned cover illustration for the sci-fi manga Laddertop, written by Orson Scott Card & Emily Janice Card and illustrated by my good friend Honoel A. Ibardolaza.

Out of deep space, a mysterious alien race known as "The Givers" came to Earth. They gave the human race the greatest technology ever seen -- four giant towers known as Ladders that rose 36,000 miles into space. Each tower culminated in a space station that harnessed the energy of the Sun to power the entire planet. As suddenly as the Givers arrived, they vanished, leaving the human race with one solemn instruction: maintain and preserve the Ladders at all costs. Due to the unique alien construction of the Laddertop space stations, however, only a skilled crew of children could perform the maintenance necessary to keep the stations running.

Twenty-five years later, back on Earth, competition is fierce to enter Laddertop Academy. Robbi and Azure, two eleven-year-old girls who are best friends, are among those vying for a spot at the prestigious academy. While one is rejected, the other takes off into space for the adventure of a lifetime. Yet soon, their destinies will collide, as they must decipher an alien message and solve an ancient mystery that could either save the Earth from invasion...or trigger its imminent destruction.

The publisher is releasing the first two volumes collected in a 384-page omnibus edition on November 5th. What are you waiting for? You can preorder the book on Amazon right now!

A Light in the Attic

Alone in the attic, Ai clutches the photos dearly. They were the memorabilia of another life, a life that had been her own once before, a life she cannot remember. But when she looks at them, she feels something deep inside her, a faint warmness that proves that these things are more than just things, but a part of her still.

The Kickstarter campaign for OVA: The Anime Role-Playing Game ended last week and turned out to be a huge success -- not only did we meet our original goal of $7,500, we far exceeded it! With a final tally of $112,080, this project grew into something much larger than any of us could have hoped for. A big, heart-felt THANK YOU to everybody who pledged and helped make Clay's dream a reality.

Fun in the Sun

The cast of OVA enjoys a much needed respite from their adventures under the bright summer sun. But with watermelon theft, unwanted admirers, and the inconvenient fact that 300 pound androids tend to sink instead of swim, there may be no rest for the weary after all!
